Study Permit

The study permit allows candidates to pursue post-secondary studies at a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada. It paves the way to a post-graduation work permit and, eventually, to several economic immigration programs through the Canadian Experience Class.

Main conditions

  • Have been accepted at a designated learning institution recognized by a province or territory
  • Prove sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses
  • Demonstrate intent to leave Canada at the end of studies, unless a transition to a work permit or permanent residence is planned
  • Be medically and security admissible
  • For certain countries, provide additional documents under the Student Direct Stream (SDS)

Countries of origin

Open to candidates from most countries, unless otherwise stated or subject to specific consular restrictions.
