Family Sponsorship (spouse, partner, parents and grandparents)

The family sponsorship program allows a Canadian citizen or permanent resident sponsor to sponsor certain family members: spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, or parents and grandparents through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) or the Super Visa.

Main conditions

  • The sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, at least 18 years old, and residing in Canada
  • The sponsor must demonstrate sufficient income depending on the sponsorship type, particularly for parents and grandparents
  • The sponsored person must be medically and security admissible
  • For spousal or partner sponsorship: prove the relationship is genuine and ongoing
  • For parents/grandparents: submit an interest form when the PGP intake opens, or opt for the Super Visa (extended stay without permanent residence)

Countries of origin

Open to candidates from most countries, unless otherwise stated or subject to specific consular restrictions.
